Is Assisted Living Right For Me?

Making the move to an assisted living community is a big decision. We know you have questions—and probably some doubts, which is natural—so we want to give you as much information as you need to help you through the process.

Answering Your Biggest Questions

Whatever concerns you have, they’re probably shared by almost everyone who considers the option of assisted living! Are any of these topics on your mind?

+ Your site says you offer help with bathing and dressing. I don’t need that kind of assistance—I’m pretty independent! Why should I consider New Haven?

If you’re thinking about assisted living, chances are you’ve experienced some difficulties related to everyday tasks. That doesn’t necessarily mean you need total hands-on assistance.

But maybe you’d like to give up daily cooking or yard work, or maybe you’d like someone to help monitor your medications so you don’t worry about taking too much, or taking your meds at the wrong time.

That’s the great thing about New Haven. We’re small, only 16 residents per community, so we aren’t one-size-fits-all. We’ll give you as much or as little help as you need.

Our assisted living communities emphasize independence and individuality, and we want your life to be as much like it used to be as possible—with the perk of not having to worry about daily chores or managing your own health care.

Whatever your needs are, no matter how large or how small, please talk to us to see if we can provide the level of care you’d like. We’ll walk you through your options—without any pressure at all.

+ Will I have to live with a stranger?

No. Each New Haven suite is private and opens onto the main common area. You’ll have your own bedroom, bathroom, and—if you’re not a memory care resident—a kitchenette, and you’ll have as much time to yourself as you’d like.

That said, we don’t think of anyone at New Haven as a stranger. We’re family here, and we think you’ll love being part of the group.

+ I’m afraid I’ll get lost in a senior living community, or won’t have anyone to talk to.

We have just 16 residents per community at New Haven, so each one feels like a small, close family. You’ll all be living together under one roof, sharing meals in a common area, and participating as you like in a full schedule of activities, events, and wellness programs.

Because our communities are small, our staff get to know you well—your likes and dislikes, your personality, and your family members who come to visit. Our goal is to create an atmosphere that feels like home.

+ Can I get help with my health condition at New Haven, or do I need to go to a nursing home instead?

That’s a big concern for many prospective residents. The truth is, modern assisted living can handle many health conditions that would have required nursing home care in the past. We have a licensed nurse on call 24/7 and on-site all day, and we have regular on-site visits from physicians, nurse practitioners, physical therapists, and so on.

Just ask us if we can help you manage your health condition at New Haven. Our flexible approach to health care may be just what you’re looking for, and if we can’t meet your needs, we’ll tell you that up front.

What’s more, if your health needs change over time, we’re well equipped to change with you, including helping you make the transition to memory care should that ever become necessary.

+ Can my spouse and I move in together, even if only one of us needs assistance?

It’s certainly possible—we have several couples with differing care needs who have moved into New Haven communities together. We’d love to chat with you about your situation so that we can assess whether the residence you’re interested in can accommodate both your needs. We strive to be flexible and adaptable for the seniors who need us!

Pricing

The cost of assisted living is a top concern for most of the people who contact us. Here’s what you need to know about New Haven’s pricing:

  • We’re a private-pay community. That means we don’t accept Medicare.
  • We charge a set monthly rate depending on suite type and location. New Haven’s rates are competitive with those of premier assisted living and memory care communities throughout the state of Texas; please contact us for a direct quote that’s customized for you. We charge a one-time community fee of $1500 at the start of a resident’s stay to cover costs related to admission and suite preparation.
  • There are many options for covering the cost of assisted living. Long-term care insurance is a good place to start, but there are other possibilities as well. For example, did you know that the Veterans Aid and Attendance pension helps reduce care costs? That’s just one of many programs that may help you afford the move to assisted living. Let us know your situation and we’ll help you determine whether help is available for you.

What Your Fees Cover

Some senior living communities emphasize expensive décor and an atmosphere that feels like a high-priced resort. There’s nothing wrong with that, but at New Haven, we prefer something different: a smaller, more intimate experience that feels like home. Friendly, comfortable, and welcoming.

Our pricing reflects the fact that we have a high number of staff available to take care of your needs. That means we can give you personalized, responsive care and tailor our programs just for you.

You’ll feel the difference from the moment you walk inside.

Your fees cover the following:

  • Three delicious meals a day plus snacks
  • Utilities, basic cable, and Wi-Fi
  • Full housekeeping and laundry services
  • Hair salon services
  • Medication management
  • Transportation for errands and events

Options for Veterans

We love our military veterans at New Haven! If you served in the armed forces, we make a special effort to honor you in our communities on national holidays and other special moments. And even more important, based on your service, there may be financial assistance for you to make the move to assisted living. To find out if you qualify for VA Aid and Attendance, fill out the form at this link!

We work with various veterans assistance organizations to help determine if potential residents qualify for benefits from the Veterans Administration. Reach out and we’ll help you get started!
